The fall season has historically served as a time to slow down and reflect on the year as it comes to a close. This fall period also lines up with the end of SOR IV Year 2 and the beginning of Year 3. In this demanding field of work, it can be hard to take a moment to realize that a whole year of work has come and gone, but we encourage you all to use this transitional time to look back on the individual triumphs for clients who have been served by your agencies/CSBs. The work that you all do has the power to change the trajectory of people’s lives for the better. This month, we want to recognize LTLL Global Ministries for being a positive and encouraging environment that meets clients where they are to help direct them to the support they need.
“A woman came to us seven months pregnant, unhoused, and working to manage a Methadone treatment plan alongside her substance use. The father of her baby had struggled with substance use and periods of incarceration for most of his adult life. The two separated around the time of her intake, leaving him without a car or stable housing.
Our team stepped in to support him, connecting him with our new shelter and staff, who helped him search for work. He was hired and started a job within walking distance of the men's house in our AFFIRM program. Along the way, he also connected with his faith for the first time, finding a sense of hope and community that became part of his turnaround.
Seeing the change in him, the mother enrolled in our Mommy and Me Drug Free program a few weeks later. She and their two-year-old had been living in their car; we brought her into our women's house and began providing services, including support to stop using additional substances. We are happy to report that she has stayed free of all illicit substances, their two-year-old is thriving, and that their newborn baby with them at home is also thriving!
The parents have worked with our team on a plan going forward: he'll work to support the family while she returns to school and cares for the children. We're partnering with Family Promise, a local housing agency, to help them find stable housing as they build a life in recovery together”
We are grateful that LTLL Global Ministries shared this story with us, and we thank all CSBs/agencies for their continued incredible efforts! If you have a SOR Treatment or Recovery success story you would like us to share, please reach out to SORSupport@omni.org!
